Chicago Man Arrested For Coughing In Cops Faces

An intoxicated man was arrested for coughing in cops’ faces after a car accident. He claimed during his arrest that he had the coronavirus.

According to the Daily Mail, 21-year-old Anthony Ponzi was arrested Sunday after being involved in a car crash and coughing on officers. Ponzi was driving his gray Jeep on Wolcott Ave in the wrong lane and crashed into another vehicle around 8 am in Rogers Park. After the accident, he exited his vehicle and started attacking the driver.

Police reported Ponzi’s behavior was very aggressive and had slurred speech along with foaming at the mouth. While trying to speak to him, Ponzi started coughing in their faces and claimed he had the coronavirus.

He was arrested and transported to St.Francis Hospital where he confessed to not having the virus. Police charged Ponzi with two felony counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and multiple misdemeanor charges which included a DUI and resisting arrest.

His court date was scheduled for Monday but it is currently unknown due to the coronavirus outbreak in the United States. Illinois currently has 1,285 confirmed cases and 12 death related to the coronavirus.
