The Bronzeville community is on edge after a beloved Chicago special education teacher seemingly vanished into thin air, leaving her family scrambling for answers and her husband pleading for help.
Linda Brown, 53, a longtime educator, was last seen Saturday afternoon in the 4500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Police say she was driving her blue 2021 Honda Civic, heading out for what should’ve been a routine weekly acupuncture appointment. But she never made it.
According to her husband, Antwon Brown, who spoke with NBC Chicago, the night before was normal and the kind of night nobody would ever think could be their last together. The couple stayed in, watched a movie, and Linda turned in early. “I woke up at 8:45 a.m., and she was gone,” Antwon said…
As the hours dragged on, concern turned into panic. Linda didn’t show up for her appointment. Her phone went unanswered. No texts. No check-ins. For her family, that silence spoke volumes.
Police described Brown as about 5 feet tall, roughly 130 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. She was last seen wearing a long black puffer coat and shiny UGG-style boots.
What’s interesting to note, investigators say she had her phone, purse, and credit cards with her when she left the house.
Furthermore, Chicago police also noted that Brown may require medical attention. Despite efforts to track her vehicle, authorities say there’s been no activity, no pings, and no sign of where she or her car could be. Absolutely nothing.
For Antwon, the weight of the unknown is crushing.
“I’m broke down. I don’t know what to do. I’ve done everything,” he said. “I’m talking to people, we’ve got people searching for her. I’m out of options.”
Brown is a special education teacher at Robert Healy Elementary School, where her absence has been felt deeply. School officials alerted parents and confirmed they’re working alongside district support teams as the situation unfolds.
“I know that news like this can cause many emotions, questions, and concerns for our school community,” principal Erin Kamradt wrote in a letter to families. “Please know that we are partnering with the CPS Crisis Management Unit to support our students and staff members.”
She added,
“If you feel that your child would benefit from additional social-emotional support, please do not hesitate to let us know. Our school-based mental health professionals will also be available as needed.”
