Despite the lack of inclusion from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Black excellence took over the 2021 Golden Globes tonight.
Two days before the awards, the HFA received backlash for having a lack of inclusion in their group and skipping over black performances, and placing black films in the best picture category. In response, the HFA said in the following statement: “We understand that we need to bring in black members, as well as members from other underrepresented backgrounds, and we will immediately work to implement an action plan to achieve these goals as soon as possible.”
Several black actors and actresses managed to snag major awards such as Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Animated Picture regardless of the controversy surrounding the HFA. Check out their winning categories along with other winners from tonight.
