This Monday, a Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge permanently dismissed charges against Kenneth Walker with prejudice, meaning the charges can no longer be refiled.

As we previously reported, Walker was accused of shooting an officer when police barged in his girlfriend Breonna Taylor’s apartment door during a botched drug raid almost a year ago. Walker was later charged with assault and attempted murder of a police officer after he opened fire during the raid, wounding Louisville Metro police Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly. Taylor was shot multiple times and died in the hallway. The charges against Walker were later dropped but without prejudice, meaning they could be refiled if new information came to light. Walker has maintained that he did not know the people at the door were officers and believed they were intruders.

However, last week, the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Jefferson County filed a motion seeking to dismiss with prejudice the criminal charges against Walker because state and local investigations “into this matter have concluded and no new information relevant to the charges against (Walker) in this matter has been brought to the Commonwealth’s attention.” This morning, Jefferson Circuit Court Judge Olu Stevens ruled the charges would officially be dismissed with prejudice, the Courier-Journal reports.

Walker sued the city and LMPD in September, seeking immunity from prosecution and damages, alleging he was the victim of police misconduct.
