Catherine Rampell Challenges CNN Anchor To Do Elon Musk’s Infamous ‘Nazi Salute’ On Live TV After He Tries To Defend Him

Many Republicans, political commentators, and supporters of the Trump administration have been doing their best to defend Elon Musk’s “straight arm salute.” However, many people, including Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell, are not letting them off that easily.

As previously reported, during Trump’s inauguration rally last Monday, the billionaire proudly thumped his chest and threw his right hand to the sky—twice—to the crowd. Instantly, viewers and online users likened the gesture to a Nazi salute.

What Are The Reactions?

Weighing in on this controversial topic during NewsNight, CNN contributor Scott Jennings condemned critics who spoke out against Elon Musk’s move. However, Rampell challenged him: “So, he has a long record of supporting the Jewish people, number one. Number two, anybody who is asserting this thing he did on the stage the other day was a Sieg Heil, which I just heard you say… lawyer up maybe because, [it’s an] absolute[ly] ridiculous thing to say,” Jennings responded. Rampell then pressed him with, “Why don’t you do it on TV right now?” Of course, Jennings rejected the challenge. But here’s how he reacted:

Interestingly enough, Musk has defended himself around that time and even recently. Over the weekend he told a German far-right political party that the country needed to “move beyond” the “guilt” of the past—more of an insult to the victims of Nazism.

“I’m very excited for the AfD; I think you’re really the best hope for Germany. Something I think that is just very important is that people take pride in Germany and being German. This is very important. It’s OK to be proud to be German. This is a very important principle. It’s good to be proud of German culture, German values, and not to lose that in some sort of multiculturalism that dilutes everything.”

He continued, “Children should not be guilty of the sins of their parents, let alone their parents, their great-grandparents,” apparently referring to Germany’s Nazi past. “I think there’s frankly too much focus on past guilt, and we need to move beyond that.”
