Premature 3-Week-Old Baby Fights Off Coronavirus

Premature 3-Week-Old Baby Fights Off Coronavirus

A premature three-week-old baby girl who was diagnosed with the Coronavirus, fought off the bug and is at home with her parents.

According to the BBC, baby Peyton was born eight weeks premature on March 26, weighing just 3 pounds and 5 ounces.

Her mother Tracy Maguire was suffering from pregnancy complications and also developed a cough and runny nose.

Maguire says it was one of the “worst things” she’s seen when Peyton was swabbed for the Coronavirus.

“It was the first time I’d seen my baby cry tears,” Maguire said to the BBC. “I held her, I was crying and we were just trying to get each other through the situation.”

Peyton then tested positive for the virus.

“They said ‘she’s fine, don’t panic – but she has tested positive for coronavirus’,” said Tracy. “I think the doctor was trying to keep me calm but I was sobbing. As much as she was fine I thought at what point was she with the virus? How is she fighting against it when she’s so wee? It was just the unknown.”

Peyton was given steroids to help strengthen her lungs and was given “amazing” care from the healthcare workers. She and Tracy were finally released on Monday and her father was able to hold her for the first time.
