L.A. County Will Keep Stay-At-Home Orders In Place Through August

During a Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, top Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer shares that the Los Angeles County’s stay-at-home orders will “with all certainty” be extended for the next three months.

Ferrer explained that this would only change if there was a “dramatic change top the virus and tools at hand.” “Our hope is that by using the data, we’d be able to slowly lift restrictions over the next three months,” she said.

Despite that, Ferrer did not directly address the extension of the current public health order set to expire Friday. As many are aware by now, a stay-at-home order is a government authority to restrict movements of a population as a quarantine strategy for suppressing, or mitigating, an epidemic, or pandemic, by ordering residents to stay home except for essential tasks or to work in essential businesses.

Roc Nation Demands Justice For Ahmaud Arbery In Open Letter

Roc Nation Demands Justice For Ahmaud Arbery In Open Letter

We previously shared the story of Ahmaud Arbery. The young black man who was shot and killed while going for a run in his Brunswick, Georgia neighborhood on February 23. He was chased down by a former police officer and his son who were armed. Arbery was shot after struggling with the son over his shotgun, according to a Glynn County Police report. The former officer later told officers that he assumed Arbery was a suspect in a series of nearby break-ins, the report said. Following footage of the incident recently appearing online, Gregory McMichael, 64, and Travis McMichael, 34, were finally arrested and booked into the Glynn County Jail Thursday.

Arbery’s tragic death sparked national outrage as the video circulated online. While many people including his family are demanding justice, Jay-Z, Meek Mill and other artists over at Roc Nation are speaking out publicly to demand a speedy trial and conviction of his killers.

Jay, Meek, Alicia Keys, and Yo Gotti have signed an open letter, which is made out to Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, Georgia AG Christopher Darr, and District Attorney Tom Durden. The letter asks to try Gregory and Travis McMichael fairly, but quickly so that felony convictions can fall on them, TMZ notes, that they also want another man arrested and tried as an accomplice.

“By now, we’ve all seen the crime’s disturbing video, so the facts here are not in doubt: He was unarmed and innocent and the victim of a hate crime. Which is why we call upon you today, as official leaders of the Great State of Georgia, and with the entire world watching, to ensure that a fair trial is conducted, as that can only lead to the appropriate felony convictions of both McMichaels. We also implore you to charge William Bryan as an armed accomplice to the crime.” Bryan was the guy who filmed the video.

They went on to say,

“We truly appreciate that you have arrested and charged these men with Ahmaud’s murder, and are hopeful that a trial and conviction will show that, in the state that gave us Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and has been the site of the best and worst of the Civil Rights movement, Dr. King’s words do ring true: ‘The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.'”

The Roc Nation squad is asking for a special prosecutor to be assigned in the case. And, they’re asking all this be done swiftly as it is an urgent matter.

Pilot’s Family Responds To Wrongful Death Lawsuit For Kobe Bryant Crash

Pilot’s Family Responds To Wrongful Death Lawsuit For Kobe Bryant Crash

The family of pilot Ara Zobayan have responded to Vanessa Bryant’s wrongful death lawsuit, adding that Kobe knew the risks of flying on January 26, 2020.

According to The Blast, documents show that Ara’s wife, Berge Zobayan has responded to the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Vanessa Bryant, adding that her husband should not be to blame for the accident. She adds that the passengers had voluntarily flown that day despite the risks of the foggy conditions.

“Any injuries or damages to plaintiffs and/or their decedent were directly caused in full or in part by the negligence or fault of plaintiffs and/or their decedent, including their knowing and voluntary encounter with the risks involved, and that this negligence was a substantial factor in causing their purported damages, for which this answering defendant bears no responsibility,” the response reads, “and that any injuries or damages to plaintiffs and/or their decedent were directly caused in full or in part by the negligence, fault or wrongful conduct of third parties, whom this answering defendant neither controlled nor had the right to control, and for which this answering defendant bears no responsibility.”

As we reported Vanessa filed a lawsuit in a Los Angeles County Superior Court against Island Express Helicopters and Island Express Holding Corp. alleging that pilot Ara Zobayan, who also died in the crash, failed “to use ordinary care in piloting the subject aircraft” and was “negligent.”

“Defendant Island Express Helicopters’ breach of its duty and negligence caused the injuries and damages complained of herein and Plaintiffs’ deceased, Kobe Bryant, was killed as a direct result of the negligent conduct of Zobayan for which Defendant Island Express Helicopters is vicariously liable in all respects,” the lawsuit read.

According to the suit, Zobayan failed to properly monitor and assess the weather prior to takeoff, failed to obtain proper weather data prior to the flight, failed to abort the flight when he knew of the fog, failed to maintain control of the helicopter, but also says that Island Express engaged in unnecessary and needlessly risky means of transportation under the circumstances.

The damages could be in excess of millions.
