Face Masks Are No Longer Required In California’s Orange County

Well, here’s an abrupt shift in health orders: Orange County residents no longer have to wear masks in public, officials said Thursday.

RELATED: California Approaches 125,000 COVID-19 Cases

County Health Care Agency Director Dr. Clayton Chau made the big announcement at a news conference, saying that face coverings are no longer mandatory, but are strongly recommended to keep as more businesses in the county are given the green light to reopen.

“I want to be clear. This does not diminish the importance of face coverings,” Chau explained according to KABC. “I stand with the public health experts and believe wearing cloth face coverings help to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community and save lives.”

He went on to say,

“This decision is not because of the public pushback on it and we are not taking the masks away,” he said, according to the Orange County Register. “We strongly recommend that people wear masks.”

The news comes days after his predecessor resigned amid criticism, and even death threats, over her order that everyone in the county must wear face masks amid the coronavirus pandemic. Under former Chief Health Officer Nichole Quick, all Orange County residents were required to wear a face-covering outside their homes when it wasn’t possible to keep at least six feet of distance from another person, according to a Health Care Agency web page published before Quick’s resignation.

As The New York Post reports, Quick voluntarily resigned Monday, and the county agreed to pay her $75,000 in severance.

As of Thursday, Orange County saw 260 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total of 7,987. Four additional deaths were reported, bringing the county’s death toll to 202. The Post reports that the county reported 3,726 recoveries from the virus.

JAY-Z’s Team Roc Calls For Charges To Be Dismissed Against Peaceful Protester

JAY-Z’s Team Roc Calls For Charges To Be Dismissed Against Peaceful Protester

The video of a young man getting arrested for peacefully protesting in Charleston is not sitting right with Jay Z or his social justice team. In fact, they’re livid and now want the charges against him to be dismissed immediately!

RELATED: Jay-Z’s Team ROC Reportedly Offers To Help Phoenix Family Who Was Threatened To Be Killed By Cops

In the viral clip, Givionne “Gee” Jordan Jr., can be seen telling police he loves and respects them during a May 31 peaceful protest. Givionne was not in the faces of the cops and was not violent at any time. Still, Charleston PD arrested him for disobeying a lawful order. Now, he was eventually released on $465 bond but Team ROC says Gee is still facing charges, and has an upcoming court date, TMZ reports.

Attorney Jordan Siev tried to make an attempt to get his charges dismissed by sending a letter to the Charleston PD, calling it “unconstitutional,” and demanded discipline for the officers responsible. However, they didn’t get the response they were looking for. Instead, an attorney for the PD wrote back: “The City is continuing to navigate through the unprecedented and violent attack by rioters on the City and its citizens on Saturday May 30, 2020, and continues to hold the safety and security of citizens and visitors as a top priority.”

As TMZ reports, Team ROC calls that response “lackluster,” and say it deflects from Jordan Jr.’s case and the request to dismiss it.

“We are outraged by the Charleston police department’s reprehensible arrest of Givionne Jordan Jr. — not to mention their dismissive response to our concerns about their conduct,” Dania Diaz, Director of Philanthropy. She went on to say, “Giovionne’s arrest was unlawful and the Charleston police clearly violated his Constitutional right to peacefully protest. We applaud Givionne and demand that his charges are immediately dismissed.”

Lil Twist Responds To Reports That He Accepted Weed Charges To Protect Justin Bieber’s Career

Lil Twist Responds To Reports That He Accepted Weed Charges To Protect Justin Bieber’s Career

In a new interview, Lil Twist talked about many things including his career, what his experience has been like on “Growing Up Hip-Hop” and his friendship with Justin Bieber, who recently admitted that he has benefited off of “black culture” while vowing to fight for racial injustice.

While speaking with Mina SayWhat on Mina’s House podcast Wednesday, Twist recalled what it was like being friends with the singer. He admitted that during his friendship he did take some legal heat early in his career to protect Justin Bieber’s image at the request of the singer’s team.

“If they would have put weed charges on Justin in his early career, it would have been bad on him,” Twist started to explain. “So I got a call one day saying, ‘Twist, do you really love this kid?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ They said, ‘Cool, if you love him then you can take the heat for him because you can come off a little weed charge. You’re associated with Lil Wayne. You’re a rapper.'”

Twist said that although he wasn’t even present for a lot of those crazy stories involving Justin Bieber, like his DUI arrest, he still caught some heat for the it. “Then it got to a point where I didn’t even have to be there at times and they were putting it ‘Twist did it, Twist did it, Twist did it.’ It became overwhelming,” he claims. The rapper only brought that up to point out how WeTV has given him a platform to show that he’s really not the bad guy “white America tries to paints me out to be,” and despite all of that, Twist made it clear that he still has love for the Biebs.

A source familiar with the situation reached out to Page Six and said that, while “Justin and Twist don’t have a relationship anymore, Justin wishes Twist well and finds these comments unfortunate and completely untrue.”

Twist also released a statement on his Instagram. He said,

“While promoting my TV show, the subject of certain events with Bieber were brought up, and in the spirit of being authentic, I felt it a disservice to my fans and the general public to not be completely transparent about my experience. I believe that if you truly support the Black Lives Matter movement, Black people, and Black culture, your actions have to reflect that.”

NYPD Lieutenant Apologizes To Fellow Officers For Kneeling Alongside George Floyd Protesters

In a June 3 email obtained by The New York Post Thursday, Lt. Robert Cattani of the Midtown South Precinct apologized for kneeling alongside George Floyd protesters late last month, telling his fellow officers that “the cop in me wants to kick my own ass.”

RELATED: Police Officer Who Kneeled On George Floyd Almost Killed Another Man In 2008

Cattani said he regrets his “horrible decision to give into a crowd of protesters’ demands” and kneel while on duty at Foley Square in Lower Manhattan, with several other cops.

“The conditions prior to the decision to take a knee were very difficult as we were put center stage with the entire crowd chanting,” Cattani wrote, according to The Post. He reportedly went on to say, “I know I made the wrong decision. We didn’t know how the protesters would have reacted if we didn’t and were attempting to reduce any extra violence.”

While explaining exactly why he took a knee, Cattani said, “I thought maybe that one protester/rioters who saw it would later think twice about fighting or hurting a cop,” Cattani wrote. “I was wrong. At least that [sic] what I told myself when we made that bad decision. I know that it was wrong and something I will be shamed and humiliated about for the rest of my life.”

Cattani did mention that the officer who killed George Floyd was wrong but said that other officers shouldn’t take the blame for Derek Chauvin’s mistake.

“We all know that a–hole in Minneapolis was wrong. Yet we don’t concede [sic] for other officers’ mistakes,” he added. “I do not place blame on anyone other than myself for not standing my ground.”

Before concluding his lengthy email, Cattani said his decision to kneel “goes against every principle and value I stand for,” and now feels bad putting on his uniform.

“I spent the first part of my career thriving to build a reputation of a good cop,” he said. “I threw that all in the garbage [on] Sunday.”

“I could not imagine the idea of ever coming back to work and putting on the uniform I so wrongly shamed,” he wrote. “However, I decided that was the easy way out for me and I will continue to come to work every day being there for my personnel.”

Tulsa Police Release Body Cam Footage Of Officers Handcuffing Black Teenagers For Jaywalking

Tulsa Police Release Body Cam Footage Of Officers Handcuffing Black Teenagers For Jaywalking

In response to social media messages from the community about the arrest of two black teenagers, Tulsa police have released body camera footage showing the moments the two boys are detained for jaywalking.

RELATED: Virginia Cop Arrested And Charged After Using A Stun Gun On A Black Man Who Cried, ‘I Can’t Breathe’

In the videos of the June 4 incident, the two teenagers can be seen casually walking down the middle of a road together before they are approached by officers. The clip then shows one officer grabbing one of the boys from behind, forcing the teen on his stomach to handcuff him. The second teenager is also handcuffed, but doesn’t struggle and remains standing.

The teenagers can both be heard asking the officers repeatedly why they are being detained and handcuffed. The teenager being held lets the officers know that they were only targeting him be because he is black, saying “you want to see me in jail or dead.” One of the arresting officers responds by telling the teens they were breaking the law by jaywalking. Now, as many pointed out, the arrests were unnecessary especially because the penalty for jaywalking typically includes a fine similar to a parking ticket.

Now, the teen who was shoved into the police car can be heard telling his friend to call his mother as he starts to get even more frustrated. The second teenager can be heard repeatedly telling his companion, “Chill out, bro. It’s not worth it.” A black man who happened to be nearby questioned the officers’ treatment of the teenagers. But one cop can be heard telling him to get out of the street or be arrested as well.

The second teenager was eventually released from his handcuffs and instructed on how to avoid jaywalking going forward while the first teenagers remained inside the caged squad car.

According to CNN, Tulsa police says the department’s Internal Affairs Unit is investigating the first teenager’s arrest.
