A shocking incident took place in a liquor store in Lakeville, Massachusetts, where a 23-year-old clerk named Carly Nunes was indicted for attempting to redeem a winning Mega Millions lottery ticket worth $3 million, which was left behind by a customer. According to reports, the customer had purchased several lottery tickets back in January and left them along with the winning ticket at the store after buying a bag of chips. Nunes allegedly scanned the ticket and discovered that the winning numbers matched those on the lottery card purchased by the customer. However, instead of returning it to the rightful owner, she decided to keep it, before taking a trip to Massachusetts Lottery headquarters two days later.

The lottery officials became suspicious when they noticed that the winning ticket was burned and torn, but they were still happy to accept it. Not long after, however, surveillance footage showed Nunes had been arguing with her boyfriend in the lobby. Investigators later uncovered that a quarrel had erupted as Nunes allegedly told her man she would only give him $200,000 of the prize money while she’d pocket the rest.

But law enforcement officers find out that not only had Nunes been arguing in the lobby of the lottery headquarters but there was also CCTV footage of her taking the tickets from the man who bought them, to begin with. The real winner has since been tracked down, with lottery officials planning to give them their jackpot. Meanwhile, last week, Nunes was hit with charges of larceny from a building, attempted larceny, presentation of a false claim, and witness intimidation
