Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana is said to be “doing well” after fainting on stage at the Pine Knob Music Theatre in Detroit, Michigan, on Tuesday. Amid his performance, the 74-year-old collapsed in front of the packed crowd, prompting on-site medical workers to rush him to a nearby hospital where he was being treated for heat exhaustion and dehydration.
Fans, who have since posted the shocking moment on social media, were reportedly told to “pray” for Carlos because of a “serious medical issue,” but in a statement released on the Jalisco native’s website, he’s said to be making a speedy recovery, implying that the musician will be fine after the disturbing incident.
“Rock Legend Carlos Santana was over-taken by heat exhaustion and dehydration during a concert Tuesday (July 5) evening in Michigan,” his team wrote. “The guitar great was taken from his show at Pine Knob Music Theatre (formerly DTE Energy Music Theatre), an outdoor amphitheater in Clarkston, some 40 miles northwest of Detroit, Michigan.”
His manager Michael Vrionis added that the Grammy award winner was taken to the emergency department at McLaren Clarkston, where his health was monitored and observed, but he has since shown clear signs that he’ll bounce back from collapse and is said to be “doing well.”
Due to the unforeseen situation, Carlos’ next show, which was expected to take place tonight at The Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, has since been postponed for a later date, with Michael continuing that further information regarding the next show will be made through Live Nation.
One of the videos that has gained a lot of attraction on Twitter was from a Detroit journalist, who recorded the moment Carlos seemingly waved to the audience while being carried off the stage, with fans cheering in the background as a way of showing their support for the iconic star.
One fan who attended the show had taken to social media, sharing, “Carlos Santana collapsed on stage 15 minutes ago and he’s still down… scary moment right now. Idk what I believe but I’m putting up prayers right now, maybe do the same if you feel it in your heart, this man is an absolute treasure.”
Another person added, “I read that the world’s greatest living guitarist waved to fans as he was assisted off the stage. Very best wishes and all the love to Carlos Santana tonight.”
Carlos had previously dealt with health problems back in December when he had to undergo an “unscheduled heart procedure,” which led to the cancelation of several Las Vegas shows, which were later rescheduled to January and March of this year.
Speaking of what transpired last year, Carlos told his fans in a video message at the time, “I had an incident where I asked my wife, Cindy, to take me to the hospital ’cause I had this thing happening in my chest. So when we went there, we found out that I needed to take care of it.”
