Carlee Russell who confessed to faking her own kidnapping last year has finally learned her fate. On Thursday, Russell pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanors, false reporting to law enforcement and falsely reporting an incident.

Carlee was facing up to one year in jail, but the judge, David Carpenter suspended the time. Instead, she received one year of supervised probation and has to pay nearly $18,000 in restitution, according to NBC News.

Russell made headlines after it was revealed that she had faked her own kidnapping. The bizarre incident shocked many in the community and left authorities puzzled as to why someone would go to such lengths to deceive others.

Russell’s disappearance sparked a massive search effort, with law enforcement officials and volunteers scouring the area for any sign of her. Her family made emotional pleas for her safe return, and the community rallied together to support them during the difficult time.

However, as the investigation unfolded, inconsistencies in Russell’s story began to emerge. Carlee told the truth and admitted to faking the whole ordeal.

Her attorney released the statement on her behalf which said, “My client has given me permission to make the following statement on her behalf. There was no kidnapping on Thursday July 13, 2023. My client did not see a baby on the side of the road. My client did not leave the Hoover area when she was identified as a missing person. My client did not have any help with this incident and this was a single act done by herself.” The statement continued: “My client was not with anyone or any hotel with anyone during the time she was missing. My client apologizes for her actions to this community, the volunteers that were searching for her, to Hoover Police Department and other agencies as well. We ask for your prayers for Carlee as she addresses her issues and attempts to move forward, understanding that she made a mistake, Carlee again asks for your forgiveness.”
