Cam newton is speaking out after a viral video showed him going back and forth with a fan who was heckling him while he was at former NCAA kicker Donald De La Haye’s “1ON1” camp over the weekend in New Orleans.

In the video you can see one of the fans asking Newton how many Super Bowl rings he had, and the free-agent quarterback came clean and said “none.” However, the one-time NFL MVP came back with a line of his own. “But we don’t got the same bank account,” he said. It seems like the fan took offense to Newton’s joke and responded back saying, “you’re too famous to be acting like that.”

After the video made rounds on social media. Newton spoke about it on his podcast and shared his own footage from that day and gave his side of the story. “To many times we seen people, hecklers, fans kind of give off an energy not knowing that they may get what they’re asking for. As a fan you’re free to say whatever you want to say. My issue comes when you play the victim. You started this and the energy that you were giving I just matched it.”

Towards the end of video he shared, Newton continued to address the situation and said, “if a child is bold enough to speak to an adult then that child should also take what that adult is giving to them. Usually somebody would say something and it’ll get thrown out of context but not in this case, not in this day and age because the athlete, the entertainer, the person of influence has the opportunity to tell their narrative and that’s all I’m doing right now.”

During his time with the Panthers, Newton established himself as one of the league’s premier dual-threat quarterbacks. He was known for his strong arm, running ability, and touchdown celebrations that earned him the nickname “Superman.” In the 2015 season, he had a standout year, winning the NFL MVP award and leading the Panthers to a 15-1 regular-season record. They reached Super Bowl 50, where they faced the Denver Broncos, but unfortunately, the Panthers were defeated.

Throughout his career, Cam Newton dealt with various injuries, including shoulder issues that affected his throwing ability and his overall performance on the field. After being released by the Carolina Panthers in March 2020, Newton signed with the New England Patriots in July 2020. He became their starting quarterback for the 2020 season. While he had some notable performances, the team faced challenges during the season, and the Patriots did not make it to the playoffs.

Cam hasn’t been back in the NFL since, but has still found a way to stay relevant with his new podcast that releases weekly.
