A California start-up is taking luxury travel to a new level—literally—by launching reservations for what it claims will be the first-ever hotel on the Moon.

According to KTLA, Galactic Resource Utilization Space (GRU) has opened an online application portal for early access to its ambitious lunar hotel project, which it plans to open in the early 2030s. The company says it’s seeking to redefine exploration by giving travelers the opportunity to be among the first humans to experience life beyond Earth.

“Only twelve humans have ever walked on the Moon, and by taking part at this early stage, you join us as we lay the foundations for life beyond Earth,” the company’s website reads

Interested applicants must pay a non-refundable $1,000 application fee to access the program. From there, participants can place a refundable deposit between $250,000 and $1 million to reserve a potential room.

Once completed, the company estimates that stays could exceed $10 million per trip, citing the logistics and technology required to transport travelers safely to the Moon. GRU is also requiring applicants to submit medical, financial, and personal documentation to prove they’re physically and financially capable of making the journey.

The reservation program is currently limited to early backers and thrill-seeking investors willing to take part in what GRU describes as a “foundational era in off-Earth civilization.”

Inside the Galactic Resource Utilization Hotel Vision

GRU plans to manufacture the first version of the lunar hotel on Earth before transporting it to the Moon, where it will be inflated into a pressurized habitat for visitors. Future expansions will reportedly include structures covered in lunar soil to protect against radiation and temperature extremes.

According to the company, the hotel will feature Earth-like amenities, including private cabins, panoramic windows, and AI-driven life-support systems designed for long-duration stays. GRU’s development team says the lunar habitat is being designed to function as a research outpost, luxury destination, and symbolic milestone for humanity’s expansion into space tourism.

Galactic Resource Utilization Space was founded by 32-year-old Skyler Chan, a California entrepreneur who developed the concept through the Y-Combinator startup accelerator.

GRU’s funding includes investments from backers connected to SpaceX and Anduril, suggesting growing interest in the commercialization of off-world living.
