California Gov. Gavin Newsom Removes His Kids From Summer Camp Due To No Masks Policy
California Gov. Gavin Newsom will be taking his 10 and 11-year-old out of basketball summer camp due to a no-mask policy!
“The Newsoms were concerned to see unvaccinated children unmasked indoors at a camp their children began attending yesterday and after seeing this, removed the kids from the camp,” his spokesperson Erin Mellon released in a statement Wednesday.
Newsom faces a recall election later this year that was motivated in large part by his Covid-19 measures. The camp issue was raised after a group opposed California’s pandemic measures for grades K-12.

The group “Reopen California Schools tweeted, “this is in clear violation of his own mask mandates. Why can his kid be maskless, but not ours?”
Mellon stated the Newsom family “reviewed communication from the camp and realized that an email was missed saying the camp would not enforce masking guidance. Their kids will no longer be attending this camp.”Â
CDPH (California Department of Public Health) now states that face coverings will be effective for all indoor childcare for kids K-12. According to CNN, they are requesting more information to see if the camp violated the state guidelines.
As more information is waiting to be confirmed if the camp violated guidelines, currently several outbreaks of Covid-19 have stemmed from summer camps. Not just California but Texas, New York, and Illinois due to unvaccinated kids and staff.
