California Enters Phase 3 Of Reopening, Includes ‘High-Risk Workspaces’

During a press conference on Friday (May 29), California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that he’ll be issuing guidelines next week as the state enters phase 3 of reopening, which includes “high-risk” workspaces,” like movie theaters.

In addition to comments on the death of George Floyd, Gov. Newsom went on to address the reopening of the state, clarifying that local government officials will have to attest to certain health standards before they can reopen their counties safely.

Additionally, Newsom says that phase four, which includes: concerts; stadiums; festivals; and large conventions; isn’t in sight yet. He adds, “No one will go forward to concerts, no will be allowed to move forward with large venues like conventions and festivals, until we are in a much better position than we are today.” Currently, the state has reported over 90,000 confirmed cases, with over 3,700 deaths.

Furthermore, Phase 3 or reopening is as follows:

1. Phase in higher-risk workplaces at a pace designed to protect public health and safety, beginning with limited personal care and recreational venues (with workplace modifications).

2. Travel for permissible activities, such as healthcare, food, stages 1-3 work, and local or activities shopping related to open sectors.

3. Monitor critical indicators and alter scope of reopening if necessary to protect public health and safety.
