As Southern California continues to experience historic heavy rainfalls, the copious amounts of precipitation have now caused part of a cliff outside of a $15.9 million mansion to fall into the Pacific Ocean. According to ABC News, three cliffside homes in Southern California are in jeopardy of falling into the large body of water beneath it if continued heavy rain results in a landslide.

Footage obtained by ABC shows the three multimillion-dollar homes sitting on the edge of a cliff in Dana Point, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Despite their increasing proximity to the ocean, all three homes have been deemed safe to live in. However, due to heavy rainfall, the priciest home on the coastline, the $16 million cliffside mansion which features four bedrooms, appears to be becoming more unsafe to inhabit as it inches closer and closer to the cliff’s edge.

According to CBS News affiliate KCAL, the home’s owner is 82-year-old local radiologist Dr. Lewis Bruggeman. The California doctor said that he refuses to vacate his cliffside mansion despite all of the severe landslide warnings and visible signs of rocks and debris sliding down to the beach right below his bluff-side home.

Dr. Bruggerman said he’s not too worried because his home hasn’t been red-tagged, which means the home is still safe for occupancy in its present state. He said, “The house is fine. It’s not threatened. It will not be red-tagged. The city agrees that there’s no major structural issue with the house.”

However, Dana Point City Manager Mike Killebrew said experts went out to the A-frame home, which is estimated at $14.1 million and is the farthest structure out on the edge in videos. He said they found no threats, despite the home’s deck being perched above the ocean.

Killebrew explained, “The city’s geotechnical engineer and a building sector went out to the site to assess the situation, as well as talk with the homeowner who owns the residence and slope where the failure occurred. Currently, the city has confirmed that there is no imminent threat to that home.”

Besides being deemed safe to live in as well, there was no additional word on the third home, which sits on the other side of the A-frame home and is estimated at $12.9 million.
