California Customs Seize $2.5M Of Meth Stuffed In Watermelons

Now you have to watch where your fruit comes from because it could be a potential home for narcotics.

10 News reports that customs in San Diego seized more than $2.5M worth of meth from a truck and it was disguised as a watermelon shipment.

The bust was made on Tuesday at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry after officials stopped a 47-year-old Mexican national driving a truck with a trailer, and one of the customs dogs alerted them to the watermelon shipment.

“We don’t frequently see seizures of this size, but they are certainly a risk in the cargo environment,” said Anne Maricich, who is the CBP Director of Field Operations in San Diego. “Stopping over 1,000 pounds of methamphetamine is a critical act for the security and health of our nation.”

As of now, the man has been booked into the Metropolitan Correction Center in San Diego County on suspicion of drug smuggling, which is a felony.
