California Cafe Charges $5 Cover Fee For Customers Who Wear Masks
While parts of the state begin to open back up, one California cafe owner is charging a $5 cover fee for customers who continue to cover their faces and wear masks inside his establishment. He’ll also charge another $5 if you brag about getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
34-year-old Chris Castleman, the owner of Fiddlehead’s Cafe in Mendocino, California, put up a sign this week to announce his new fee for mask-wearing customers who order from his business. Castleman explains the method to his madness, claiming, “I don’t believe in mask wearing. Our customer base has been strongly aligned with our beliefs, but I think some are really angry at our cafe. It’s their choice. They can choose what business they support. They can go to any other business in my county, state. I don’t think $5 to charity is too much to ask from mask wearing customers who claim to care so much about the community they live in.”

As mentioned, the fed up owner plans to donate all proceeds, with his charity of choice being Project Sanctuary; which is a local domestic abuse organization. He’ll donate for two weeks before a new nonprofit enters the rotation. Previously, back in March, Castleman offered a 50% discount to customers who threw their masks in the trash. He plans to keep his signs up for a few more months as he doesn’t believe Mendocino County will end their mask mandate anytime soon.
