During her first interview after announcing her run for governor, Caitlyn Jenner revealed that it was much easier for her to come out as a transgender woman than a Republican.

In the interview with FOX 11 L.A., Jenner said it was a lot easier to reveal that she was a transgender woman than to explain to the Kardashians that she wanted to run as a Republican candidate. In her response, she also commended her stepdaughter Kim Kardashian for her work in criminal justice reform.
“One thing, I talked to all my family about running for governor, and to be honest with you, it was easier to come out as trans than as a Republican candidate. As a Republican candidate was a lot tougher to sell. Um, I think Kimberly has done an amazing job with criminal justice reform. I think she’s spot on. I have not asked her to be involved in my campaign, but I guarantee you as time goes on and I become governor, I’m sure she’ll have my ear.”

Jenner said in a statement to Politico last month that she decided to run against Gavin Newsom because she believed someone like her needed to make changes.
“California needs to change. And I think it takes somebody like me, an outsider. People would ask me, you know, why are you doing this? You’ve never done anything politically before. I have done some, but certainly not to this level. And I think that an outsider going to Sacramento is a very good thing.”
