Burnt Body Found In Puerto Rico Confirmed To Be Delaware Man Who Disappeared After Fight With Locals

A forensic scientist in Puerto has confirmed the burnt remains found in Old San Juan belong to a Delaware man who went missing after an altercation in La Perla.

The relatives of Tariq Quadir Loat went to the island on Monday to identify his body after his pregnant girlfriend reported him missing on Saturday. Before she filed the report, Loat and his friend, James Jackson, were on a bus when they decided to get off and take pictures. According to Delaware Online, the Wilmington resident and James were told by a group of people not to take photos in the neighborhood because it attracts police officers since the pair allegedly purchased drugs. The confrontation resulted in a violent altercation and Jackson ran to a nearby business, La Vergüenza, to seek help. Jackson said he couldn’t find Loat afterward and on Monday, his relatives flew to the island to identify the body.

Loat’s remains were confirmed on Tuesday by The Institute of Forensic Sciences matched his fingerprints. “It was possible to establish through the analysis and comparison of fingerprints that the body found in the municipality of Vega Baja corresponds to Tariq Quadir Loat. In this way, the Institute of Forensic Sciences was able to carry out a legal and scientific identification, in this case, Director Dr. Maria Conte Miller said.

The body was found on the PR-656 highway in Vega Baja and authorities said the tattoos and height were similar to Loat’s.
