The entire incident was captured on a doorbell camera, providing a pretty insane glimpse into the events that transpired. The video shows the resident, later identified as Ethan Rodriguez, confronting another man who claimed to be a maintenance worker, who was actually trying to break into the apartment. Sensing something was off, Rodriguez tells the man that he wasn’t home.

However, the man returns with a friend, both armed and attempts to forcefully enter the apartment. In a courageous act of self-defense, Rodriguez fires 13 rounds, successfully defending himself and his home. Miraculously, no one is injured in the shootout. The video was shared on social media and ultimately led to the identification and subsequent arrest of 30-year-old Aaron Contreras, who has a criminal history dating back to 2013. Contreras now faces charges of aggravated assault, deadly conduct, and attempted burglary.

“I check the camera to see who’s all at the door and I saw him kicking the door with a firearm and fearing for my and my brother’s life. I just let the gun go. I didn’t know what to do,” Rodriguez said. “This was a random attack, we couldn’t have expected any of this. He’s not linked to anyone in my family or anybody that we know. I’m guessing he just thought this was just going to be a lucky pay day and no one’s home, free stuff to steal. No, he thought wrong.”
