Winston Glynn,30, was named as the suspect who shot Nieves during a robbery at a local Burger King earlier this week. On Friday morning, NYPD officers arrested and charged Glynn with murder in addition to robbery. During his arrest, Glynn screamed about reparations as the crowd condemned him for killing Nieves.

Investigators also said he worked at the same Burger King on East 116th Street in 2020 but it was not the same time as Nieves. He also had four prior arrests.

As previously reported, security footage showed the moment Glynn opened fire at the teen as she tried to the cash register. “The man demands more money from the register drawer. As Miss Bayron Nieves is scrambling to open the drawer, she doesn’t have the key. The male fires one shot, striking her and causing her death.” said NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig.

NYC Mayor Eric Adams also commented on the shooting and said there were “too many guns on our streets.”

“I don’t come to press conferences of arrests, but this one was so personal. For a cold-blooded killer to shoot a 19-year-old child after she complied. We have been saying this over and over again – there are too many guns on our streets,”
