Britney Spears Says Conservatorship Is “Voluntary”

There have been many questions about Britney Spears’ long-standing conservatorship, with many fearing for the star’s well-being. However, the pop idol recently came out to say that the legal guardianship is actually “voluntary”.

A Conservatorship is defined as when a guardian or protector is appointed by a court to manage finances and the life of someone who is mentally or physically incapable. Britney has been under conservatorship since 2008 after her break down in 2007. For the most part, her dad Jamie had control.

Earlier this week the star filed to keep the conservatorship in place by nominating an individual or company to oversee her estate.

“This is a voluntary conservatorship. Conservatee wishes to exercise her right to nominate a conservator of the estate,” her lawyer, Samuel Ingham III, said in court papers.

Britney recently filed to remove her father and seeks to place the financial management company, Bessemer Trust, in charge of her estate. They would have authority over her health, finances, and music career.

Cher showed concern for the star after it was revealed that Britney’s sister filed to manage some of her assets.

“She Worked Hard, Was The Golden Goose, Made Lots Of money, Got Sick, Now She’s The CASH COW. Does anyone Who’s Making Off Her Being Sick, Want Her Well Someone Who Doesn’t Want Anything From Her Should Look Into Her Dr.& Her Meds. ……Is It a Duck,” tweeted Cher.
