Britney Spears might be a free woman, but the people surrounding her are still keeping a wall around the pop star, which has stopped many of her old friends from getting in contact with her, according to former NSYNC member Lance Bass. Britney’s 13-year conservatorship was successfully terminated back in November after a lengthy court battle with her father, Jamie Spears, who was adamant that his daughter remained in the court-ordered arrangement.
Since being granted her freedom, the Toxic hitmaker has been living her best life, taking plenty of trips with her fiancé Sam Asghari, dancing up a storm on Instagram, and she even became engaged. But despite all of the beautiful things happening in Britney’s life, it’s been hard for her friends to get a hold of her because her inner circle are supposedly keeping her guarded, which Lance says has made it impossible for him to get anywhere near Brit “It’s just, you know, there’s a wall around her,” he told Page Six. “And for some reason, those people don’t want her old friends involved with her life.”

A source via E Online then went on to claim that Lance and Britney had “fallen out of touch” over the years, though it’s unclear whether her conservatorship had something to do with that. The mother-of-two reportedly changed her phone number after her victorious win in court last year, with an insider indicating that Lance doesn’t appear to have received Brit’s new digits.
It was just in July 2021 when Lance talked about having his former close ties to Britney, explaining how he hadn’t spoken to the singer in years despite having shared a strong friendship with Britney up to a certain point when her life had taken a major shift, seemingly alluding to her conservatorship battle. “We’ve been kept away from each other for quite a while, but I don’t know exactly what she needs,” he said on the Heather Dubrow’s World podcast at the time.
“But I do know that she, to me, what I see is sane enough to pick her own people, and the only thing that I don’t subscribe to is that she’s sending cryptic messages and all that type of stuff.”
And while the pair are nowhere near as close as they once were, in a November episode of Ancestry’s 1 Lies of a Leaf show, the Bye Bye Bye hitmaker learned that Britney is actually his sixth cousin once removed — a revelation which Lance was completely stunned by. “That is so crazy though, ’cause, I mean, I feel like she’s my little sister and this whole time she’s been my little cousin,” he gushed. “And it makes sense because we were born an hour from each other.”
“For some reason I always felt like we looked like family, even when we were kids. I mean, this means so much to me. She is like family to me, so the fact that we are blood-related is amazing.”
