Four months after being detained in Russia, Britney Griner is weighing in on trans women being able to compete against their biological counterparts in sports, according to The Daily Mail.

In December the WNBA star said that she ‘definitely will be speaking up against that legislation and that law expected to be passed,’ referring to Republicans wanting to pass Title IX as an assurance to protect women’s sports. During her first press conference as a Phoenix Mercury player, Griner weighed in on the conversation saying, ‘Everyone deserves the right to play,’ Griner added, calling any other viewpoints a ‘threat’ to trans people as they prevent them from truly ‘being who they are.’

Also during the press conference, Griner spoke about her Russian detainment and expressed gratitude for the United States’ action to bring her back home.

Why Was The WNBA Star Detained In Russia?

On 17 February, Ms Griner was traveling through the Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow when Russian customs officials allegedly found cartridges containing the offending hashish oil in her luggage.

Ms Griner was taken into custody at the airport on charges of large-scale transportation of illegal narcotics, which carried a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

After spending 10 months in Russia the U.S. officials negotiated a prisoner swap with Moscow for notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout.

It has been a major topic on sports when it comes to transgender women playing and one person who speaks publicity on the laws often is, Caitlyn Jenner.

As we previously reported, Olympic gold medalist Caitlyn Jenner weighed in on the NCAA’s decision to allow the participation of biological males in women’s sports. Her comments come surrounding the controversy surrounding University of Pennsylvania transgender swimmer Lia Thomas. Caitlyn accused the organization of “kicking the can down the road” to appease Thomas.

“[I’m] disappointed,” Jenner told “America Reports.” “The NCAA just kicked the can down the road, and it’s unfortunate. I am out there to protect women’s sports.”

According to Fox News, the new policy will allow transgender athletes to participate in sports on a sport-by-sport basis. The organization said transgender athletes will be required “to document sport-specific testosterone levels beginning four weeks before their sport’s championship selections.” Speaking about the decision, Jenner called it a symptom of a “woke world gone wild.”

“I don’t know why the governing bodies of many of the different organizations are so intent on getting such a small number of people [trans athletes]…why they’re bending over to this one person,” she said, referring to Thomas. “It’s a woke world gone wild. It doesn’t have to be that way.”

  1. This I totally disagree with. It is not fair! Women’s sports should be a safe space for biologically born females. It’s not complicated.
