‘Bridgerton’ Star Regé-Jean Page Will Not Appear In Season 2
Say it ain’t so! “Bridgerton” breakout star Regé-Jean Page will not appear on the show’s upcoming second season.
Netflix and Shondaland announced the news this Friday in Bridgerton fashion, with the show’s character Lady Whistledown sharing the update:
“Dear Readers, while all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,” the message began. “We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family,” it continued. “Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear?” Variety quotes.

As the news site notes, Page had only been contracted to do one season, and the plan was always for him to only do Season 1, based on the first Bridgerton book, The Duke And I, sources said. However, his character will be referenced going forward though he won’t appear.
Meanwhile, the actor told Variety one of the reasons he originally joined the project was because he knew it would be short term:
“It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end — give us a year,” Page said. “[I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”
