Severin Beckwith and Anna Brettman were hiking on the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Virginia and decided to take a break by stopping at the Lodge in Fontana Village. According to Yahoo! News, the couple took a break due to the bad weather but were suddenly approached by federal officers once they checked into their room.
“Next thing I see is a bunch of guys with riot shields with ‘U.S. Marshals’ written on them. Handguns pointed at my face.”

During the raid, a U.S. Marshal showed Beckwith a photograph that a hotel employee submitted after they mistook him for Laundrie. The two men share similar features since they both have a skinny body shape, shaved hair, and a beard. However, Beckwith doesn’t have any tattoos. The officers advised Beckwith to shave his beard after he underwent fingerprinting and he was offered a free night stay plus breakfast at the hotel for their error.
Brian Laundrie is still considered missing almost two weeks after the funeral of his girlfriend Gabby Petito.
