After much speculation, Vice President Kamala Harris has announced her running mate for the 2024 presidential election.

Multiple sources have confirmed to the Associated Press that she has selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Harris is set to formally introduce Walz at a rally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, later today.

Following the announcement, Harris and Walz will take a tour of battleground states, with planned stops in Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada. This big news comes just one day after Harris officially secured the Democratic nomination through a virtual roll call vote of the party’s delegates.

More on Tim Walz:

Tim Walz began his political career in 2006 when he was elected to the House of Representatives to represent a primarily rural district bordering Iowa, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. From there, he served in Congress until 2019, when he became Minnesota’s governor, a position he was reelected to in 2022.

In the lead-up to her decision, Harris narrowed her options to three finalists: Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Interestingly enough, Walz held a fundraiser for her campaign in Minneapolis last night.

He has received praise for his humorous critiques of Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, labeling them as “weird.” At the fundraiser, Walz said, “We’ve got to run this campaign against the serious threat that’s there, but we have to do it every single day with a sense of joy,” he stated.
