Well, this is not good. This Wednesday, Russia publicly claimed that Ukraine attempted a drone strike on the Kremlin with the aim of killing President Vladimir Putin.

Per NBC News, Russia claims the drones were disabled before “they could strike.” While no casualty has been reported, the alleged assassination attempt on Vladimir Putin has now been labeled a “terrorist act.” The Kremlin noted that President Vladimir Putin has been placed somewhere safe and will continue to work with his schedule unchanged.

“Last night, the Kyiv regime attempted to strike the Kremlin residence of the President of the Russian Federation with unmanned aerial vehicles,” the Kremlin stated while noting “two unmanned aerial vehicles were aimed at the Kremlin. As a result of timely actions taken by the military and special services with the use of radar warfare systems, the devices were disabled,” the Kremlin said. “As a result of their fall and the scattering of fragments on the territory of the Kremlin, there are no casualties and material damage.” So far, no evidence has been presented over the alleged incident. There has also been no official reaction from Kyiv to the alleged thwarted assassination attempt.

On social media, there’s currently a unverified footage circulation which appears to show an object flying over the Kremlin before a small explosion. Several Russian cities had already announced they would scale back this year’s Victory Day celebrations due to fear of possible terrorist acts from pro-Ukrainian forces for the changes.

As it was previously reported, on 24 February 2022, Russia invaded and occupied parts of Ukraine in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which had begun way back in 2014. The invasion has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths on both sides and displaced 8 million Ukrainians by June. More than 8.1 million had fled the country by March 2023.
