After months of waiting and hinting at another presidential run, President Biden finally confirmed that he will seek a second term.
The announcement was made in a promotional video on 80-year-old Biden’s Twitter account. “Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours. That’s why I’m running for reelection as President of the United States. Join us. Let’s finish the job,” he captioned the post.
His campaign video opens with imagery from the January 6th, 2021, attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters. In the clip, he starts by saying, “Freedom. Personal freedom is fundamental to who we are as Americans. There’s nothing more important. Nothing more sacred. That’s been the work of my first term: To fight for our Democracy. This shouldn’t be a red or blue issue.” He added: “This is not a time to be complacent. That’s why I’m running for re-election. Because I know America. I know we are good and decent people. And I know we are still a country that believes in honesty and respect, and treating each other with dignity. That we’re a nation where we give hate no safe harbor. And we believe that everyone is equal, and that everyone should be given a fair shot to succeed in this country.”
He continued, “When I ran for President four years ago, I said we are in a battle for the soul of America – and we still are. Every generation of Americans has faced a moment when they’ve had to defend democracy, stand up for our personal freedoms, and stand up for our right to vote and our civil rights. This is ours. Let’s finish the job.”
The big announcement came exactly four years from the day Mr. Biden announced his previous campaign launch on 25 April 2019. Biden also tried to run for president back in 2008 but ultimately dropped out and became Vice President to winner Barack Obama.
Vice President Kamala Harris also announced that she will, once again, be Biden’s running mate with a mission to “defend democracy.”
“For two years we have made transformational investments to build a nation in which everyone can be safe and healthy, find a good job, and retire with dignity,” she applauded. However, Harris called out “extremist” Republicans and accused GOP candidates of wanting to take the country “backward.”
“In response, extremists have intensified attacks on basic, foundational freedoms and rights,” the vice president said. “For example, they want to take away a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body. They attack the sacred right to vote and attempt to silence the voice of the people. And they try to block common-sense reforms to save lives and keep Americans safe from gun violence.” Harris proclaimed: “The Republicans running for President want to take our country backward. We will not let that happen.”

How Are The Polls Looking?
According to a new survey from NBC News, 70% of Americans, including 51% of Democrats, do not think Biden should run for reelection, with 26% showing support for the President.
Fully aware of all the presidential talk, in February, Biden admitted that concerns over his age were “totally legitimate” amid growing concerns from both his heavy critics like ex-President Donald Trump as well as his supporters.
“No,” Biden said at the time. “But it’s legitimate for people to raise issues about my age. It’s totally legitimate to do that. And the only thing I can say is, watch me.”
What Has Donald Trump Said About Biden’s Re-Election Announcement?
Donald Trump who also plans to run for office again even despite being arrested earlier this month, bashed President Biden ahead of his announcement saying, “You could take the five worst presidents in American history, and put them together, and they would not have done the damage Joe Biden has done to our Nation in just a few short years,” Trump said in a lengthy statement on Monday. “Not even close.”
Speaking directly to his supporters, Trump went on to say, “With your support in the election, we will defeat Joe Biden in 2024. We will rescue our economy. We will crush inflation. We will stop the invasion on our southern border. We will restore our Nation’s dignity. And we will prevent World War III from happening. Together, we will all Make America Great Again!” Donald Trump has not yet released a new statement regarding today’s breaking news.
