Joe Biden Begins Radiation Therapy Following Prostate Cancer Diagnosis
Just months after revealing his cancer diagnosis, reps for former president Joe Biden are giving his supporters an update on his health.
This Saturday morning, a spokesperson shared that Biden will be undergoing a new phase of treatment for an aggressive form of cancer that was diagnosed back in May.
“As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment,” the spokesperson said. The radiation treatment will reportedly go on for five weeks. He has already been taking a pill form of hormone medication.
This latest update comes just a month after his reps let the public know that he was also treated for skin cancer — known as Mohs surgery.
What Is Mohs Surgery?
Mohs surgery is a precise surgical technique used to treat skin cancer. During the procedure, thin layers of cancer-containing skin are progressively removed and examined until only cancer-free tissue remains. It’s a common and effective treatment, especially for removing skin cancers from sensitive or visible areas like the face, where doctors try to minimize scarring while ensuring all cancerous cells are gone.
For Biden, this earlier treatment came before his prostate cancer diagnosis. According to his medical team, the surgery was successful, and they were able to remove all visible cancer cells at that time.
Biden’s Health Journey and His Message of Strength
Biden has become more open and honest about his health ever since dropping out of the 2024 presidential race. While many politicians tend to keep personal health matters private, he’s been using his platform to thank his supporters and let everyone know that he’s doing okay.
Despite his diagnosis, he has remained positive. Following his diagnosis, he did release a statement saying, “Cancer touches us all,” Biden began. “Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”
Support and Reflection Amid Treatment
As the former president continues this next phase of treatment, messages of encouragement have flooded in from both sides of the political aisle. People are sending prayers, kind words, and respect for his willingness to speak openly about something so personal.
In a country where prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men, Biden’s openness brings visibility to a health issue often left in the shadows. His story might just encourage others to get checked and take their health seriously.
