A federal judge just ordered Texas to end their abortion laws. Which since September stopped most abortions in the nation’s second-most crowed state.

U.S District Judge Robert Pitman orders have given Texas its first legal hit to the Texas law which is known as Senate Bill 8. During the time that the restrictions started, Texas abortion officials say the impact was “exactly what we feared.”

“A state may not ban abortions at six weeks. Texas knew this, but it wanted a six-week ban anyway, so the state resorted to an unprecedented scheme of vigilante justice that was designed to scare abortion providers and others who might help women exercise their constitutional rights,” Justice Department attorney Brian Netter expressed to the federal court Friday.

According to abcnews, even though the law is currently on hold, abortion clinics in Texas may not instantly start because doctors may fear being sued without more permanent legal decision.

Texas is looking to do a quick appeal on this decision. As we previously reported, Gov. Greg Abbott signed a law back in May which would stop abortions once cardiac activity is detected which is typically around six weeks, before most women even know they are pregnant. Texas also made it known that they will file lawsuits against violators that could cost them at least $10,000 in damages.
