A Colorado boy was mauled by a mountain lion while he was playing outside of his home with friends.

The New York Post reports the attack occurred Wednesday evening when the boy and a friend were playing on a trampoline in Bailey. He ran to another home to escape the animal but the mountain lion bit him on the head as told by Area Wildlife Manager Mark Lamb.

“The kid was running and it probably triggered the lion’s natural response to a prey animal running,”

The boy’s father ran outside after his oldest son heard the attack outside and approached the animal but it let go of the boy’s head then ran off.
