Boulder Mass Shooter Passed Background Check For Gun Purchase, Despite Previous Assault Charge

The suspect in the Colorado Sooper shootings purchased a gun at a local store and completely cleared background checks despite previous assault charges.

According to 9News, the firearm used for the deadly shooting was purchased by Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 21, from a shop at 12371 W. 64th Ave. Owned by, John “Mark” Eagleton.

“We are absolutely shocked by what happened and our hearts are broken for the victims and families that are left behind,” Eagleton said in a statement sent to The Denver Post. “Ensuring every sale that occurs at our shop is lawful, has always been and will always remain, the highest priority for our business.”

“Regarding the firearm in question, a background check of the purchaser was conducted as required by Colorado law and approval for the sale was provided by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation,” he added. “We have and will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement as their investigation continues.”

In 2017, an 18-year-old Alissa, attacked a classmate and punched him in the head for no reason. He was then convicted of misdemeanor assault in 2018 and was sentenced to probation and 48 hours of community service.

He is currently being charged with ten counts of murder.
