A bomb squad was called over to a hospital in Gloucester, England after a man reportedly got a WWII-era mortal shell stuck in his rectum.

The man was reportedly cleaning out his home when he slipped and fell onto the 57mm mortar shell and was rushed to the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Upon his arrival to the hospital, a bomb squad from the 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment after receiving a call from the police that a patient “had a munition in his rectum.” According to Gloucestershire Live, the mortar round was used by the Royal Artillery in World War II as an anti-tank round but it was later used by British tanks in North Africa.
“We can confirm an Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called out to Gloucestershire at the request of local police.”

“We can confirm that the police and Explosive Ordnance Disposal team (EOD) attended Gloucestershire Royal Hospital yesterday. As with any incident involving munitions, the relevant safety protocols were followed to ensure that there was no risk to patients, staff, or visitors at any time,” hospital officials said in a statement.
The man is expected to make a full recovery after doctors removed the object from his behind.
