While speaking with the New York Times, Joni Kueng discussed her feelings about her son being involved in the death of George Floyd and his decision of becoming a police officer. She says before he joined the force, he witnessed one of his siblings being arrested by police officers and receiving unfair treatment. Joni also mentioned her son was the “youngest and least experienced” at the time of Floyd’s murder and it was his third day at work.

His siblings, Taylor and Radiance, have expressed disgust towards their brother’s actions and joined the protests in Minneapolis. Radiance says she plans to change her last name to cut all ties from her brother and believed her brother should’ve stepped in when he heard Floyd’s cries for help.

“I don’t care if it was his third day at work or not. He knows right from wrong.”
