As reported by KTLA, Chris James said he woke up from a shotgun firing into his apartment from the neighbor’s unit upstairs on Oct. 18. He also stated that police officers did nothing to fix the situation after the man didn’t answer the door and now he feels like a target due to being one of the few Black residents in the predominately Latino neighborhood.

James told the station that he has lived in the apartment for three years and the neighbor moved in over a year and a half ago but has been antagonistic ever since. The neighbor allegedly started hanging up “All Lives Matter” signs near the apartment complex along with hosting loud parties.

“The police checked his apartment the next day and surprise: No weapon was found. The neighbor said that he was not home and he “thinks sone broke into his apartment and did it”…The police say that because of this story, they couldn’t prove he did it. (Yes I know. Ridiculous.) My landlord did not push to evict him even after a year of noise complaints from me plus a gunshot,” James wrote on his GoFundMe page.

James is currently staying at a friend’s home and said he is fearful for his safety and wants city officials to do something about the situation so no one else has to deal with it.
