According to the court records, the divorce is based on irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital behavior. Additionally, Cyrus is pursuing an annulment citing fraud as the reason.
Having been friends for years, the two musicians started collaborating on music during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their relationship evolved into dating in 2022, leading to an engagement later that year and culminating in their marriage in October 2023.
“10/10/23 will always be the beautiful, joyous day that our two souls united as one in holy matrimony,” they shared in a joint Instagram post at the time. “It was the most perfect, ethereal celebration of love we could have ever imagined.”
The duo has unveiled four joint tracks so far: “New Day,” “Time,” “Plans,” and “After the Storm.” In a conversation with PEOPLE following the release of the latter song in March, they discussed how its message of hope struck a chord with them. Cyrus praised “After the Storm” as a potent and relevant piece.
Reflecting on the lyrics, Firerose expressed, “It was by the grace of God that I made it through my darkest moments. These words hold so much truth, and I feel called to support others in finding resilience during their own challenges.”
In August 2023, the couple appeared on Good Morning America to perform “Plans” and discuss their relationship.
“We’re kind of like… It’s a peanut butter and jelly,” said Cyrus. “I’m a left-handed singer-songwriter from Flatwoods, Kentucky, and she’s a trained orchestral musician…”
Firerose added, “It has been a beautiful whirlwind and I’m just so grateful that I get to live my dreams every day with the love of my life.”
