Billionaire Richard Branson Breaks Record As He Reaches Space In His Own Rocket Ship

The Virgin Galactic’s VSS Unity has officially left earth.  Billionaire Richard Branson and a few passengers aboard, but this isn’t his first time making this attempt. He has previously made 20 test flights and 3 of which he reached the edge of space, according to CNN.

“We’re here to make space more accessible to all. We want to turn the next generation of dreamers into the astronauts of today and tomorrow. We’ve all us on this stage have had the most extraordinary experience, and we’d love it if a number of you can have it, too,” Branson said. “If you ever had a dream, now is the time to make it come true. I’d like to end by saying welcome to the dawn of a new space age.”

It is attached to mothership, WhiteKnightTwo which looks like two smooth jets attached at the top of its wings. The first 45 minutes was a smooth cruise then slowing climbed up with VSS Unity between 40,000 and 50,000 feet. Virgin Galactic’s VSS Unity has been reported to have safely landed at Spaceport America  at 11:42AM EST

Branson wanted to wait until later this summer to fly. Then he looked to sign up for a earlier flight after seeing Bezos announce his plans to fly his own rocket ship into space from Texas on July 20.

Other were inspired by these two and now more than 600 people have made reservations for a trip into space with Virgin Galactic, founded in 2004.
