Bill Gates opened up about his divorce from Melinda Gates during the Allen & Co. event last Thursday and attendees said the Microsoft founder said he was on the verge of tears at one point while talking about it.

During an interview with CNBC host Becky Quick, Gates was questioned about his recent divorce from Melinda and the Gates Foundation. According to the New York Post, an attendee said that the Microsoft founder reportedly confessed to messing his marriage up and said it was his fault. However, he didn’t discuss his alleged affair that took place before the divorce was filed.
“He basically referred to the fact that it was his fault. He did seem a bit emotional about it. He might have been on the verge of tears.”

However, other attendees claimed Gates had a bad attitude during his time at the event and didn’t want to talk to anyone. Also in attendance at the retreat were Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerburg, and other well-known CEOs and founders in the tech industry.
