Big Sean Explains ‘Beef’ With Kendrick Lamar, Confirms They’ve Reconciled

Previously we reported on the Big Sean track “Deep Reverence,” noting how he opened up about his relationship with Kendrick Lamar. Now, the Detroit rapper is explaining his “beef” with the Compton emcee, confirming they’ve now reconciled. On the track, Sean says there were never any real issues. He raps, “After what happened to Nipsey, I reached out to Kendrick / It wasn’t even no real issues there to begin with / Lack of communication and wrong information / From people fueled by their ego, it’s like mixin’ flames with diesel.

For backstory, after the two rappers effortlessly murdered their verses on Sean’s hit 2013 track “Control,” fans thought the two were coming for each other and continued to hype the beef online, for years. But, after a talk with TDE’s Punch, Sean says he texted Kendrick, but had the wrong number and never got through. He says, “I never went any further than that. I just left it there. So I had been wanting to [address it publicly]. When I reached out to him, the mutual respect me and him have for each other is that of like kings and brothers. We respect each other to the fullest.”

Fast forward to 2020, Sean tells ‘Sway’s Universe‘ that Lamar reached out to him after hearing his track, and further explained that the internet blew the situation out of proportion. He says, “The situation was, he thought that people around him were telling him something, people around me were telling me something, and it just really wasn’t the case. So, when we were able to talk, it was a good reconciliation and it was a good mutual respect. And even when he heard ‘Deep Reverence,’ he hit me and was like ‘Yo, I appreciate you showing me that love. I appreciate that love for me in the verse. You and Nip went crazy.'”
