Big Sean is shutting down claims that his recent lyrics were directed at Kendrick Lamar.

This week, the Detroit rapper made a comeback on the popular “On The Radar” freestyle series, rapping over Aaliyah and Timbaland’s “If Your Girl Only Knew” track. DJ Akademiks highlighted a part of the lyrics where Sean raps, “I got better things to do than find someone to beef with,” as a subtle dig at Kendrick Lamar. When sharing the lyrics on X, Dj Akademiks added,  “BIG SEAN COOKED KENDRICK” which quickly began to spread on social media.

DJ Akademiks further fueled the controversy by reposting Big Sean previewing a new track that seemed to take a shot at Kendrick Lamar and his hometown of Compton. Big Sean later spoke out and dismissed DJ Akademiks’ comments and claimed he was “reaching,” and instead supported veteran journalist Rob Markman’s analysis that the track in question focused solely on beats, rhymes, and life.

In 2020, Big Sean addressed any misunderstandings between him and Kendrick Lamar on the track “Deep Reverence,” which also earned him a Grammy nomination. Despite this clarification, fans hoping for a feud between the two artists may still find some satisfaction.
