Social media users and fans of Beyoncés Ivy Park line have taken their frustrations to social media after a recent campaign photo appeared to promote blackfishing. The backlash began after Ivy Park’s official Instagram reposted two Russian models who appear to have tanned skin with braids and kinky hair extensions. One user said, The Ivy park page on insta has posted these two girls who are blackfishing. Wtf!? You’ve got the next Emma Halberg, who looks like she’s been rolling in dirt, & the other one is trying to be Cynthia Bailey! I just hope they take the picture down & these two lose their hairlines.”

Other users dug deeper and revealed more photos of the models who were identified as Alena Biuni and her friend Anastasia. Alena responded to the backlash on her Instagram page and said the following in Russian, “Black women (and white-skinned ones as well) started scribbling comments from the category: “WTF ?! Delete this !!! ”,“ These white Russians are insulting our rights ”,“ why the hell is they wearing braids and braids ?! ”,“ This is racism ”and blah blah blah … They have the concept of Blackfishing – they say, when whites try to mimic the blacks: style, hairstyles, dances and everything that is tied to their culture, in order (God forbid) to get some goodies. But I don’t understand what’s wrong with this culture, their style, music and dances since childhood. And I don’t understand why the hell I can’t dress the way I like, do the hairstyle I like …”
