Beyoncé’s latest album release, “Cowboy Carter,” has once again captivated fans and the internet with its unique sound and creative vision. However, the journey to this album was not a straightforward one, as Beyoncé recently revealed that she had originally planned to release “Cowboy Carter” before her previous hit album, “Renaissance.”

In a rare public statement, Beyoncé shared insights into the making of “Cowboy Carter,” a 27-track project that took over five years to complete. She explained that the initial plan was to release this album first, but the global pandemic and the heaviness of the times prompted a change in direction. “It’s been really great to have the time and the grace to be able to take my time with it. I was initially going to put ‘Cowboy Carter’ out first, but with the pandemic, there was too much heaviness in the world. We wanted to dance. We deserved to dance. But I had to trust God’s timing,” the megastar said in a press release obtained by Variety.

Each song on “Carter” draws inspiration from different Western films, with Beyoncé immersing herself in the cinematic world during the recording process. Films like “Five Fingers For Marseilles,” “Urban Cowboy,” and “The Hateful Eight” served as source material, shaping the sonic landscape of the album. Beyoncé’s creative process involved experimentation and exploration, recording around 100 songs before curating a cohesive body of work that reflects her diverse influences and passions. Speaking more her process, Bey went on to share, “My process is that I typically have to experiment,” she noted. “I enjoy being open to have the freedom to get all aspects of things I love out and so I worked on many songs. I recorded probably 100 songs. Once that is done, I am able to put the puzzle together and realize the consistencies and the common themes, and then create a solid body of work.”

Embracing elements of country, blues, and Black folk music, Beyoncé incorporated “real instrumentation” into the album, including the accordion, washboard, and pedal steel guitar. Notably, she used her nails as percussion, drawing inspiration from icons like Dolly Parton to infuse the music with organic, human sounds.

The character of Cowboy Carter serves as a tribute to the original Black cowboys of the American West, reclaiming the term “cowboy” from its derogatory origins. Beyoncé celebrates the strength and resilience of these men, highlighting their overlooked contributions to Western history and culture. Through this character, she aims to challenge stereotypes and honor the legacy of Black pioneers in the American frontier.

The new album which is already receiving tons of praise online since dropping midnight, “Carter” also features contributions from, Willie Nelson, Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, Jon Batiste, Linda Martell, Stevie Wonder, Chuck Berry, Rhiannon Giddens, Nile Rodgers, Robert Randolph, Gary Clark, Jr., Willie Jones, Brittney Spencer, Shaboozey, Reyna Roberts, Tanner Adell and Tiera Kennedy.

Beyonce believes with all the hard work she put in along with her amazing collaborators, she considers “Carter” her finest work. “I think people are going to be surprised because I don’t think this music is what everyone expects,” she says, “but it’s the best music I’ve ever made.”
