Investigators report that the arson apparently started in the kitchen after firefighters found books inside of an oven and a gas can. Neighbors also told police that they believe someone might have broken into the vacant mansion before the fire occurred and there have been several occasions where strangers had access to an unlocked gate to enter and exit the home.
