According to a report from RadarOnline, Williams is currently dealing with new charges being filed against her in connection to an insurance fraud case. In 2021, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri indicted Williams on a number of federal charges. Prosecutors accused Williams of inappropriate use of a social security number, bank fraud, wire fraud, making false statements to the IRS, and aggravated identity theft. Williams has pleaded not guilty to all charges. However, weeks before the scheduled April 17 start date for her trial, prosecutors are preparing to “present a superseding Indictment to a Grand Jury before the trial date for additional charges,” according to legal documents obtained by RadarOnline.

On the other hand, James recently dropped her lawsuit against Lyft linked to an alleged 2020 driver assault incident. Court documents obtained by RadarOnline have revealed that James dropped her case with prejudice, meaning she cannot re-file the lawsuit again. In the lawsuit, James cites an alleged August 2020 incident in which she claims a male driver assaulted her and left her stranded. James’ lawsuit alleges the occurrence started when she was picked up by the driver in question on August 20, and he asked her to use hand sanitizer, which she claims she did. Apparently, the driver then would not comply with her request to roll up her window, as he allegedly was driving with all of them down at the time.

James then accused her alleged attacker of “driving significantly faster than the speed limit in the carpool lane on highway 1-405,” and swerving in and out of lanes on the highway for several minutes. The driver then purportedly “pulled over to the side of the highway and, while using profanity, demanded that [James] get out of the vehicle.” James then alleges that when she refused to exit the vehicle the driver used “force, grabbed her by the head of her hoodie sweatshirt and violently pulled her out of the vehicle, causing her to fall on the ground.” She said that after the driver left her on the side of the highway, she was forced to walk 10 minutes to get to her destination.

While what’s at stake for both Williams and James equates to two totally different outcomes, both of the recent developments serve as substantial legal blows to the pair. James had previously accused Lyft of being negligent in hiring the driver after the company refused to provide the driver’s name when she filed a police report. Though it’s unclear the extent of damages she has faced as a result of the alleged assault, she previously stated that it “robbed” her of a sense of “dignity and personal safety” and caused her to suffer both psychological and physical injuries.

As Williams continues to fight to prove she’s innocent, she has faced multiple obstacles that have limited her freedoms as a result. While a judge recently granted a motion to have her ankle monitor removed, Williams claims she missed out on more than $30,000 and a lucrative deal with Rihann’s Savage X Fenty as a result of not being able to model lingerie with the bracelet on her ankle. In a statement from Williams’ lawyer, Beau B. Brindley, the attorney claims the charges brought against his client “far exceed,” the actual evidence present in the case.

“The government continues to make allegations that far exceed any actual evidence in their possession. Whatever the new charges may be, we look forward to addressing them,” Brindley told RadarOnline.
