The Barbie movie premiere took place in Los Angeles on Sunday and so many stars popped out to support the event!

Hollywood Unlocked got a chance to speak with multiple members of the cast and got some great details about the film. Of course we spoke to Margot Robbie and she talked about her favorite Barbie looks that she wore during filming. “I think we been referencing the looks more in the press tour, the film notes to Barbie and Barbie from previous decades but not necessarily replicating any looks. Jacqueline really had a lot of freedom to create a Barbie type costume for everything but she was pulling references from everywhere such as old films and photographs, but overall it was very collaborative.”

We also spoke with actress, Alexandra Shipp and she explained her role in the film and how she appreciated the film representing sexuality and diversity. “I think for the little queer child in me, one it was iconic to have a Barbie house. Two, being able to not only represent me and people that look like me in this movie really meant a lot to me. And I think that there are so many different Barbies that do so many different things and accomplished so many different things and I’m really excited for young kids to see it.”

A lot of appearances were made on the pink carpet. Fans were excited to see Issa Rae, Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj and more.

In the film Barbie grows disillusioned with the real world after discovering the challenges of being a live woman (sexism, unrealistic beauty standards, et cetera). But conflict arises when it becomes clear that Ken loves his IRL experience—while still loving Barbie. Oh, and at the same time, an evil Mattel CEO (played by Ferrell) is on the move to get the plastic couple back to Barbieland.

  1. I think the world, particularly the United States, needs a film such as Barbie, to rekindle the protocol of being ladies and gentlmen. When you dress better, you behave better. When you open the door for someone, you become more conscious of consideraton. When you speak to soeone assertively using proper english, you are less likely to swear at someone. Style is paramount and decency is everything, and always in style. In all that we do. We all need to think about our personal style. Figure it out, get help if you need to and represent. That is certainly what Barbie represents. After all, style, is extremely “continental.”
