In July, Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama first endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. The following month in August, The Obamas both attended and spoke at the Democratic National Convention (DNC). On Thursday evening (October 24), Obama hit the stage at VP Harris’ campaign rally in Clarkston, Georgia, outside of Atlanta.

During his speech — at the star-studded rally in Georgia that also featured Tyler Perry, Samuel L. Jackson, Spike Lee, and Bruce Springsteen — Barack Obama told a crowd of about 23,000 people, “Together, we have a chance to choose a new generation of leadership in this country and start building a better and stronger and fairer and more hopeful America.”

While wrapping up his speech, Barack Obama proudly welcomed VP Kamala Harris, whom he deemed the next president of the United States, to the stage. As Harris entered the frame, she walked up to the podium and greeted Obama. He then took her hand and lifted her arm like a boxer who had just won the battle.

At the rally, Kamala Harris wore a tan suit jacket and blue denim pants, with her jacket paying respect — an homage, a nod — to Barack Obama’s infamous tan suit that set the internet and Washington, D.C. on fire. Just a few months ago in August, Obama even celebrated the 10th anniversary of his viral tan suit as he shared an image of himself in the outfit alongside an image of VP Harris rocking a similar tan pants suit at the DNC in August.

As Kamala Harris greeted voters in Georgia, she went on to celebrate Barack Obama and then proceeded to share a story from over 17 years ago when she took a trip to Springfield, Illinois to support “a brilliant young senator who was running for president of the United States.” Harris continued to thank the former President and said that after all of these years, his friendship and support “means the world.”

Speaking to her largest audience since running for president, Kamala harris said, “Millions of Americans were energized and inspired not only by Barack Obama’s message but by how he leads, seeking to unite rather than separate us.” Harris then went on to slam her Republican opponent, President Donald Trump. She called him an “unserious” yet dangerous authoritarian who would hurt Americans in their everyday lives and undermine our nation’s democracy.
