‘Bachelor’ Star Matt James Back with Rachael Kirkconnell Despite Controversy Over Her “Racist Actions”
#Socialites, get into this: Just one month after “Bachelor” star Matt James broke up with his season’s winner, Rachael Kirkconnell, on national television, citing her history of “racist actions,” the couple is reportedly back together!
As we previously reported, photographs that emerged of Kirkconnell attending an antebellum-South-themed party in college had been floating around online. Social media users also unearthed Kirkconnell’s history of “liking” photos of Confederate imagery. James explained to her in the March 15 finale: “The most disappointing thing for me was having to explain to you why what I saw was problematic and why I was so upset. And that’s why it was problematic,” James said. “When I questioned our relationship, it was in the context of you not fully understanding my Blackness and what it means to be a Black man in America. And what it would mean for our kids when I saw those things that were floating around the Internet. And it broke my heart, because this is the last conversation I thought we’d be having.” Kirkconnell took James’s engagement breakup in the finale, and blamed her “ignorance” for her past actions.
Now, after all of that, a source close exclusively told Page Six “They are back together, but Matt is hesitant to publicly and outrightly confirm it right now because it’s still fresh and they still have issues to work through,” the source said. “Rachael already faced scrutiny for her past, and now all eyes have shifted to Matt, so he’s feeling pressure to set a good example for other black men.”
The source adds that “He’s aware that people are not going to be happy that he jumped back into a relationship with Rachael so soon,” the source adds. “So while he is happy to have her in his life again, he is not ready to scream it from the rooftops yet.”
