Baby Boy In Intensive Care After Being Accidentally Shot By Houston Police
A one-year-old baby boy is fighting for his life in intensive care, with part of his skull removed after being accidentally shot by Houston police.
babreports that Daisha Smalls was getting gas on March 3 when she witnessed police cars and sirens. A man then approached her and tried to steal her car. After she refused to give up her car because her son was still strapped inside, the suspect sat on top of her and still attempted to steal the vehicle. At this point, police arrived and shot into the car, killing the suspect, and also hitting the baby boy.
“I wouldn’t give him my car because I let him know that I have a child in my car and that I would not leave my car without my son,” Smalls said.
According to police, the suspect didn’t drop the gun he had and that’s when an officer shot into the vehicle. Officials claim he didn’t know a young child was also in there.
“They knew she was in the car, but they still shot anyway, knowing a Black woman was in the car,” said attorney Benjamin Crump. “Her life matters.

“The most important thing right here, for our entire city, pray for this 1-year-old and that mother,” HPD Executive Assistant Chief Troy Finner following the incident. “Can you imagine? She’s pumping gas, probably coming from work or whatever, and has to go through this. And now she’s in the hospital and we’re all praying for that baby.”
